Modelling of Waste Processing Plants
During the 70’s quite a lot research was done in the Systems Theory Laboratory (preceeding the Automation Technology Laboratory) for modelling and control of biological waste processing plants. Under EC project COST 682 “Optimizing the Design and Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants through Computer Programs and Dynamic Modelling” the research in this area has become active again. Jorma Selkäinaho has been participating several meetings in Denmark and France. The International Association of Water Pollution Research and Control (IAWPRC) has published commonly accepted standard model for the activated sludge process. The IAWPRC model no 1 includes Carbon Oxygen Demand, Nitrogen and Phosphorus removal. Current research is concentrating on parameter estimation of models based on nonlinear differential equations.
