Doctoral Candidate or a Master’s Thesis worker for Department of Automation and Systems Technology
Aalto University is a new university with over a century of experience. Created from a high-profile merger between three leading universities in Finland – the Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki – Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multidisciplinary education and research. The university has 20 000 students and a staff of 5 000 including 350 professors.
The Control Engineering group is now looking for a research-oriented and motivated master’s thesis worker or doctoral student for a temporary position. Mining and minerals engineering is one of the main research application areas of the Control engineering group. Currently our research includes the development of a new type of dynamic process simulator that will be used concurrently with an actual flotation process. The simulation model will provide additional information for the process operators as they are planning and executing control actions. The model will be adjusted to mimic the real process as closely as possible. This will make it possible to achieve redundancy in the existing measurements, as well as, provide completely new virtual measurements from the process. Furthermore, by increasing the simulation speed, it is possible to make predictions on the effects of different control actions, before actually making them.
This development work requires knowledge of control techniques (e.g. studies in Automation and systems technology) and good Matlab skills. The applicant should be able to assist in practical implementation issues, since the simulator will be installed to a mineral concentration plant. In addition, studies or other knowledge in geology, geophysics or minerals processing are seen as an advantage.
For application, please email the following documents (in Finnish or in English) attached to the email:
|•||transcripts of records|
|•||other supporting documents e.g. letters of recommendation|
The applications should be sent no later than on Friday, October 26th, 2012 by email to Dr. Jani Kaartinen (firstname.lastname@example.org), who also answers to any questions related to the position. The Department of Automation and Systems Technology is situated in Otaniemi campus of Aalto University, TUAS-building, Otaniementie 17, Espoo.
