The Control Engineering group is looking for a postgraduate student for a temporary position to work in the EU project Hercules-C, which aims at developing advanced control methods for diesel machines. The Finnish part of the consortium is led by Wärtsilä, and the partners at Aalto University are the group of Internal Combustion Engines at the Department of Energy Technology and the Control Group at the Department of Automation and Systems Technology. The project is especially targeted at developing adaptive and optimal methods to control diesel engines in ships, to save energy and to minimize the amount of emissions.
The position requires good knowledge on control engineering, simulation methods and experience of using the Matlab/Simulink software. Previous expertise of the application field (electrical machines, generators, fuel cells, batteries) is not necessary, but is considered a benefit. The applicant is expected to pursue postgraduate studies in addition to research, in order to reach for the doctoral degree. The research results are published in international journals and conferences, and the research is carried out in close co-operation between companies and universities in Finland and abroad.
